Pairing transition of nuclei at finite temperature

چکیده

Pairing transition at finite temperature was investigated by the shell model and BCS calculations. The definitive signature of pairing transition is identified by a “transition temperature” Tt estimated from a “thermal” odd-even mass difference, while there is no sharp phase transition because of the finiteness of nucleus. It is found that Tt is in good agreement with predictions of critical temperature Tc in the BCS approximation, and the pairing correlations almost vanish at two points of the transition temperature T ≈ 2Tt. The BCS calculations show that the critical temperature Tc increases with increasing deformation. PACS: 21.60.Cs, 21.10.Ma, 05.30.-d

Signature of a Pairing Transition in the Heat Capacity of Finite Nuclei

The heat capacity of iron isotopes is calculated within the interacting shell model using the complete (pf + 0g9/2)-shell. We identify a signature of the pairing transition in the heat capacity that is correlated with the suppression of the number of spin-zero neutron pairs as the temperature increases. Our results are obtained by a novel method that significantly reduces the statistical errors...

Pairing correlations and transitions in nuclear systems

We discuss several pairing-related phenomena in nuclear systems, ranging from superfluidity in neutron stars to the gradual breaking of pairs in finite nuclei. We describe recent experimental evidence that points to a relation between pairing and phase transitions (or transformations) in finite nuclear systems. A simple pairing interaction model is used in order to study and classify an eventua...

Nuclear shape transition at finite temperature in a relativistic mean field approach

The relativistic Hartree-BCS theory is applied to study the temperature dependence of nuclear shape and pairing gap for 166Er and 170Er. For both the nuclei, we find that as temperature increases the pairing gap vanishes leading to phase transition from superfluid to normal phase as is observed in nonrelativistic calculation. The deformation evolves from prolate shapes to spherical shapes at T ...

Shape transition in some rare-earth nuclei in relativistic mean field theory

A systematic study of the temperature dependence of the shapes and pairing gaps of some isotopes in the rare-earth region is made in the relativistic Hartree-BCS theory. Thermal response to these nuclei is always found to lead to a phase transition from the superfluid to the normal phase at a temperature T∆ ∼ 0.4 − 0.8 MeV and a shape transition from prolate to spherical shapes at Tc ∼ 1.0−2.5 ...

Thermodynamical properties of a mean-field plus pairing model and applications for the Fe nuclei

A mean-field plus pairing model for atomic nuclei in the Fe region was studied using a finite-temperature quantum Monte-Carlo method. We present results for thermodynamical quantities such as the internal energy and the specific heat. These results give indications of a phase transition related to the pairing amongst nucleons, around temperatures of 0.7 MeV. The influence of the residual intera...
